MSU bass fishing team headed to 2027 MLF national championship

STARKVILLE, Miss.—ÑÇÖÞÉ«°ÉÊÓÆµ club sports bass fishing team members are qualifiers for the 2027 Major League Fishing National Championship after recently placing in the top 15 at a regular season tournament in Alabama.
MSU graduate student James Broderick, a business administration major from Hoover, Alabama, and sophomore Ben Puckett, a finance major from Paris, Tennessee, qualified for the MLF championship after competing in a field of 210 teams at the Columbia PFG College Fishing event this past month.
Puckett and Broderick also are eligible for MLF’s College Fishing Heavy Hitters, the second-most exclusive fishing event in the country. Only 18 of approximately 1,200 boats competing in a qualifying tournament receive an invitation to the three-day Heavy Hitters event to be held in October at Douglas Lake in Jefferson County, Tennessee.
Additionally, Julian Gomez, a freshman agriculture business major from Marietta, Georgia, and Wesley MacDonald, a sophomore building and construction science major from Hoover, Alabama, combined to catch two fish for a total weight of 4 pounds, 15 ounces at the Columbia PFG tournament.
